What is the difference between a US ton, a UK ton and a tonne?
A US short ton is 2,000 lb (907 kg), a UK long ton is 2,240 lb (1,016 kg), and a metric tonne is exactly 1,000 kg. The long ton and the tonne are within 2 percent of each other, which is why they are so often confused, and why freight documents should always specify.
How do I read a decimal stone value?
Multiply the fractional part by 14 to get pounds. 11.81 stone is 11 stone and 0.81 × 14 = 11.3 pounds, so 11 stone 11 lb. Nobody says "eleven point eight one stone".
Is this measuring weight or mass?
Mass, strictly. Weight is the force gravity exerts on a mass and is measured in newtons. Everyday usage has treated the two as interchangeable for centuries, and every unit here is a mass unit.
