Random Food Generator
- aubergine
The random food generator draws from 40 foods and ingredients spanning European, East Asian, South Asian, Middle Eastern and Latin American cooking. The list mixes finished dishes with single ingredients, which is what makes it work for both meal decisions and cooking challenges.
How it works
The mix is deliberate: a list of only dishes answers "what should we eat", while a list of only ingredients answers "what should I cook with". Combining both means one draw can do either job.
- Finished dishes: paella, ramen, laksa, risotto, congee, falafel, tiramisu.
- Ingredients and components: harissa, tahini, saffron, yuzu, za’atar, tamarind, miso.
- Breads and bases: baguette, brioche, focaccia, sourdough, tortilla, polenta.

laksa
A single draw suits the "we cannot decide what to eat" use, which is what most people arrive wanting.
Five ingredients as a cooking challenge

Result
harissa, aubergine, tahini, sourdough, pistachio
Five distinct draws. Because the list mixes ingredients and dishes, some five-item draws work as a shopping list and others do not, that is the nature of an unfiltered pool.
Frequently asked questions
Does the random food generator suggest recipes?
No, it draws names only. Recipes need dietary information, quantities and technique, none of which a word list can carry responsibly. Use the result as a starting point for a search.
Why does the list mix whole dishes with single ingredients?
Because the two answer different questions and people arrive with both. Drawing "paella" answers what to eat; drawing "harissa" answers what to cook with. A list of only one kind fails half the visitors.
Does it account for allergies or dietary restrictions?
No. The list includes nuts, dairy, gluten and shellfish-adjacent dishes with no filtering. Check the result against your own requirements. The tool has no way to know them.
