How it works
Syllable length is the one property this list is deliberately balanced on, because it is the property that most changes how a first name pairs with a surname. Short surnames tend to carry longer first names, and the reverse.
- One or two syllables: Thea, Vera, Willa, Nora, Iris, Maeve, Freya, Cora.
- Three syllables: Adeline, Eloise, Juniper, Ophelia, Sabine, Amara.
- Four or more: Seraphina, Genevieve, Marguerite, Perpetua, Rosalind.

Frequently asked questions
Why does the girl name generator mix very short and very long names?
Because syllable length is what most affects how a name sounds next to a surname, and seeing both extremes together makes that easier to judge. Eight of the 30 are one or two syllables; five are four or more.
Can I filter to short names only?
Not directly. The tool has one list and a shortlist length. Draw 30 to see everything, then pick the length band you want. A dedicated filter would be a different tool for a different task.
Do names repeat between draws?
Yes. Each draw starts fresh from all 30, so a name you saw before can reappear. Repeats never occur inside a single shortlist.
